Google Accounts – “this service is not available” video transcript

Hi this is Jan at My Local Business Online and this is a quick video for those people who are seeing this lovely page on their Google account which states “This service is not available”.

This is because you may have set up your Google account using your own domain email address like info at mylocalbusinessonline dot co dot uk. It means that your Google account isn’t a full account and you need to apply services to it.

The most usual reason for seeing the service is not available page and your Google account being an app account not a “normal” account is when you have gone through Google sites to set up your website. That’s the most common reason I have seen, so far anyway.

What you need to do now is to go into Google apps and add Google services to your account. That’s quite easy to do.

What you need to do is to go to www.google.com/a/cpanel/YOURDOMAINNAME

You’ll come to the dashboard. Click on organisation and users up here then the services tab. You will then get a long list of Google services and most will be switched off.  This is why you can’t reach services like Google Places for example, or even Google Docs another useful one to have.

Scroll down the services list and switch on the ones you want to use. For a local business the most important are Google Map Marker, Google Maps and Google Places. You may also find services like Google Reader, Google Adwords and Adsense, Blogger and Feedburner for your feed useful. Switch those on while you’re there as well.

That’s how easy it is. That link again is www.google.com/a/cpanel/YOURDOMAINNAME and it’s on screen now.

I hope that helps, I’ll speak to you soon

Jan mentored us through every step of the way...
“Being novices to IT, we hired Jan through a recommendation to help us with our web site(which is brilliant). Not only did she build the web site but she as mentored us through every step of the way, navigating the internet, encouraging us to joining different social networks. With out her help we would have been really struggling to cope with the requirements of a modern day business.
