Facebook Game Requests – do you love or loathe them?

I think we all have “that friend” who seems to spend their days on Facebook playing Mafia Wars or Candy Crush Saga.  Not content with whiling away their hours, they send out more game requests that humanly possible…

For me, I don’t think there is anything much more irritating on Facebook than logging in to dozens of notifications about pointless activities. Yes, I am a miserable git!  (I am waiting for the first person to say the whole of Facebook is pointless too…)

On a more serious note, the mass of game request notifications can often mean you miss more important notifications unless you do some major scrolling.

There are two ways you can block Facebook game requests and notifications, I cover both in the video.  A full transcript and text with screenshots is below for those who prefer to read.

Two Ways To Block Facebook Game Requests

[showhide type=”transcript” more_text=”Click to Show Full Video Transcript” less_text=”Hide Video Transcript” hidden=”yes”]Hi it’s Jan Kearney at My Local Business Online. This is a really quick tutorial on how to block game requests on Facebook. There’s a couple of ways of doing it.

The first really quick(ish) way is to go to your Facebook and click on games in the app section. Once you’re here click on activity and if you are lucky all this page will disappear and you will get a section where you can click on invites. If not, just scroll all the way to the bottom of the games until you get to this section where you can click on invites

At this point you can see which invites have come in. Click the cross then block the particular game. So it says blocking Candy Crush Saga will prevent others from sending you invitations and requests for this app and will prevent this app from getting any info about you. This will also prevent you from seeing Candy Crush Saga if other people have it installed.

At that point, we’re shouting Hurrah!

Confirm that you want to block Candy Crush Saga or which ever game you keep getting invites for. You can do the same for any games you have recently had invites for. You can also block your friends and hide requests.

The other way you can do it is to go into your settings. Click the little drop-down arrow and click on settings. Click on blocking in the left hand side and scroll. You can block invites from apps and block apps. Once you block an app you can no longer get any information. To block apps just type in the name and click on it.

That’s how you do it. Unfortunately you do need to individually stop very game. So when a friend start playing a new game and you get an invite, go in and block it.

Hope that helps! Speak to you soon![/showhide]

Blocking Facebook Game Requests Method 1

1. On your Facebook feed page, scroll down to the Apps section in the left side menu and click Games

Click on games in the app menu

2. Click on the Activity tab

Click the activity tab

3. Scroll down if necessary and click on Invites and the Respond to Your Invites screen opens up

4. Click the X next to the game you want to block and the Confirm button

click x next to the game you want to block

5. You’ve now blocked game notifications for the selected game.  Repeat as necessary!

game blocked - confirmed

Blocking Facebook Game Requests Method 2

1. Navigate to your Facebook settings

navigate to facebook settings

2 Select Blocking from the left side menu

select blocking from the side menu

3. Scroll down to the block apps section, type in the game name and select from the drop-down

scroll to block apps and type in the game name

    Hi Jan,

I’m like you and have zero interest in vid games.

And, if I could only get my FB pages to load, I’d immediately use one of your methods for blocking game requests on Facebook.

Thanks for the hack. Needed it.
    Edward

I have lots of interest in games Edward – I know my limits though, start playing and I lose hours (and days!). I’ve never played on Facebook though, I’m not even going to try!

Why can’t you log into Facebook? Anything I can help with?
