Why Block People On Your Facebook Business Page?

Over the weekend, I was asked a question, “Jan, how to I block so-and-so from posting on my Facebook Page”.

Sometimes you simply have an aggressive troll or spammer who’s sole aim in life is to make your life difficult.  Maybe you’re like me and have zero tolerance for spam comments on your Page and just whack them into the delete and ban bin.

Before you go block crazy and stop certain people from interacting with you on your Facebook Business Page, do put some thought into it.

3P’s – Positive, Polite, Public

When people complain publicly – on your Fan Page for example, it’s often best to deal with the complaint in public where they complained.  By dealing with issues politely and positively in public you minimise the risk that the person will go all out on other platforms where you can’t monitor what is going on and resolve any issues.

Be honest, when people complain publicly there is usually a reason.  You may not agree with the reason!  Generally speaking, you can resolve issues without resorting to gagging…

I would block the following with no hesitation:

  • negative Nancys
  • link drop and runners
  • persistent grammar and spelling police
  • competitors not working with you but trying to steal your audience
  • abusive personal comments

Here’s how to block people on your Facebook Business Page

1. Navigate to your Facebook Business Page and click settings in the top menu

2. Click Banned Users in the left side menu

3. Click the Banned Users dropdown box and choose “People Who Like This” or “Pages Who Like This”

4. Scroll and find the person or Page who you want to block

5.  Click the gear icon on the right hand side and choose Remove

NOTE:

Blocking or banning a person from your Facebook Page will stop them from interacting with your Page.  Your Page is public so they can still see updates if they choose to look for you.

    Thanks Jan

I’ll certainly tuck this one away for future reference!

I’m getting a spate of people who think it’s good marketing to tag me in pictures etc on my personal profile and when I go to check what I’ve supposed to have been doing I find myself (supposedly) buying an “xyz” or goodness knows what else. No prizes for guessing what happens to them….. Although it’s irritating that FB tells me the tagged picture is still public.

I suppose it’s the online equivalent of the unwanted “cold call”!

Appreciate the video for dealing with unwelcome business page spammers.

Hi Joy, I have my settings so only friends can tag me and tagged posts need to be approved by me before going on my wall. I don’t get any “marketing” tags at all now – yes, they drove me nuts too!

Thanks for popping in and have a great week 🙂

This is helpful information – thanks for sharing!

I’d like to know one further step: how do you remove negative “reviews” from strangers who never interacted with me and have no reason to be dropping 1- or 2-star “reviews” on my page? 🙁 Most of these are from countries on the other side of the world from me; I have no idea who they are or why they would be doing this!

Ahh if you find an answer to removing individual Facebook reviews successfully Karen – bottle it and sell it quick as the world is waiting!

Unfortunately, there is no way of removing reviews. You can reply to reviews and say something along the lines of this person has never bought my product/used my service. That way anyone actually reading the reviews at least knows it’s fake.

The only (drastic) option is to turn reviews off all together. Do that by turning off your Map/Checkins.

If you only have a few low stars with no review, that may be too drastic an action. Don’t forget “bad” review stars aren’t always a bad thing. Unless you have a raft of them that are damaging, a slightly less than perfect star rating actually looks more natural – none of us are perfect 🙂
