7 Blogging Lessons From Your Christmas Jumper
1. Plan what you want your blog to say about your business
It’s true, you can take inspiration from anywhere and anything (including Christmas jumpers) to create your blog posts. Blogging works best if you have a consistant tone and message.
2. Headlines are important
Your post headline is what gets people reading. It’s perhaps the most important part of your post! Here’s some great tips for writing headlines for non-writers.
3. Graphics are good
Adding images to your blog post increases engagement, encourages sharing and helps your readers digest information.
4. Video lights up your blog
Using video in your blog posts can take them to the next level. Videos have the ability to capture your audiences attention and keep them on the page longer. Not to mention, you can use video to explain concepts, give a tutorial, demonstrate your products and inspire trust.
5. Links are pretty nifty
Not just inbound links, which are always welcome. Link out to other interesting blogs and posts. No blog is an island!
6. Socially does it
Share your blog post on your social media channels – get the word out! Don’t forget to include social sharing buttons on your posts so others can share too!
7. Guest bloggers are big teddy bears?!
Do consider inviting other people to write posts for your blog. Add variety, a change is as good as a rest!
Over to you…
Can you add any blogging lessons you have learnt from an inaimate object?
7 Blogging Lessons From Your Christmas Jumper by Jan Kearney
Ginny Carter says
I admire you for taking part in this Christmas jumper lark, I only found out about it yesterday but I’m not sure any of my jumpers are tasteless enough (ho ho ho). Good point about graphics, it always put me off a blog post if there’s nothing pretty (or in this case creepy) to look at.
Jan Kearney says
Shh, don’t tell anyone Ginny – but my daughter is wearing the jumper. Really, can you see me in one? lol
Thanks for popping in 🙂

It is probably the nearest to festive I get Sue! Have a good one 🙂
Bonnie Gean says
Interesting way to design an information graphic. I can see how some of them make sense. others are a little far-fetched to me. Everybody knows we HATE those ugly sweaters. 🙂 LOL
Jan Kearney says
They’re all the rage Bonnie! The guest posting teddy bears made me chuckle. Thanks for popping in 🙂
Galina St George says
Hi Jan, 🙂
A very engaging post, love the way you use infographics for your blog articles. This is something I would like to try with my blog posts. It’s a fun way to catch the reader’s attention.
It’s funny how I myself don’t like reading long posts, and end up writing them myself! Definitely something to work on. Your posts while very educational, are also visual, and I love reading them. One
big advantage – they are never boring!
Best wishes,
Galina
Jan Kearney says
You know Galina – considring I am not a very visual person, those in fographics keep popping up! Thanks for the lovely comments too – much appreciated 🙂
Ron Killian says
Nice post Jan! Definitely think I’m missing some of the tips on my blogs. So many thing on the to-do list.
Funny you talk about bad sweaters (though never heard them called jumpers), there was just a group on shark tank looking for investors in their bad sweater company. They did get one too. Just funny it’s turning into such a big business. My wife was even talking about doing it for our Christmas. I don’t even have any sweaters, let alone a bad one.
Thanks for the post Jan.
Jan Kearney says
Thanks Ron. I’m a Brit – so those sweaters will always be jumpers! When I was growing up, we always got a Christmas jumper from an aunt – red or green with holly or christmas puds or snow etc on. They were dreadful, and we had to wear them on our Christmas visit lol The “tradition” of receiving a dreadful Christmas jumper seems to have morphed into a whole movement over here! Thanks for popping in 🙂
