How To Comment And Share As Your Google My Business Page [Video]

May 15, 2015 by Jan Kearney

You’ve set up your Google My Business Page and you’re now getting more involved in the social/connection side of Google Plus as your Page rather than your personal Profile. Inevitably, there will come a point when you are reading around the web and want to +1 or share the article as your Page or comment on Google+ enabled comments as your Page.

You click the share button or start to comment and see you are logged in as your Google+ Profile.

There are work-arounds for sharing to your Google My Business Page. A simple copy and paste of the link to your Page or use a scheduling app like Buffer. But no matter how you hold your mouth, stare and swear at the screen is it possible to +1 or comment as your Google My Business Page on blogs around the web.

How To Comment And Share As Your Google My Business Page

Of course, it is possible to +1, share and comment as your Google My Business Page.  You need to be logged in as your Page’s Google Account.  You can’t access it by default, but need to set up a password in your settings.  The video below shows you how.

How To Create A Google Account For Your Google Plus Page

1. Sign into your Google My Business Page

2. Go to settings

3. Scroll down to ‘Third-party tools’ and click the set up a password button

4. Re-enter your Google password

5. Choose a password for your Page Google Account

You can now login to Google directly as your Google My Business Page and +1, share and comment where available around the web.

A Handy Tip Or Two

You’ll notice in the video I log out of my personal Google account and log back in as my Google Plus Page.  I do this because I have access to several Google accounts for clients and I prefer to log out to avoid embarrassing mistakes!

If you use the Chrome browser you have access to the Chrome profile management tool.  Here you can log into different Google accounts without logging in and out by selecting a Chrome profile.  Logging into Chrome automatically logs you into Google.

Just click the profile selection button in the top right corner of Chrome to set up a profile for your Google Plus Page.

Chrome profile selection

Select switch person then click add person in the new pop up

If you want to comment on Blogger blogs as your Page Google account, make sure you are signed in Google and pop over to Blogger.com before you leave your very first comment.  Blogger should show your Page description, scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and click the button.  Now when leaving a comment on Blogger, you’ll show as your Page account rather than Google (unknown profile).

Over to you…

Will you now use your Google My Business Page to share and comment around the web?  Feel free to try it out in the G+ comment section below 🙂  (Good old fashioned WordPress comments are also welcome!)

Oh, so THAT’s how you do it! . . .

Thanks for the tips, Jan. I find Google a trifle unintuitive and sometimes I can’t figure out how to do something I want to do without a help.

Hi Hollie, G+ does have a habit of hiding things! It’s well worth some patience diving in and having a play. I’m not the most active there but it is my favourite platform because of just how much you can do with it, it’s slowly grown on me 🙂

Hi Lizz, there’s lots (and lots) of very active photographers and communities on G+. Not to mention if you geo-tag your images they may show on Maps too – the possibilities for visibility for a small business on G+ really are endless.

It’s well worth sitting down with your favourite beverage and having play, get to know G+ a bit. It’s far more than a social network, and yet I find the social side on there far less painful!

Thanks for popping in, and don’t forget if you have any specific questions to ask away 🙂

    Hi Jan

Thanks for the tips – especially about the Chrome.

Like Hollie I don’t find G+ easy to navigate / work, so here’s a good old-fashioned WordPress comment until I’m less hassled.

    Have a good week, Joy

Hi Joy, are you back to the keyboard full time now?

Google Plus is very deep, there’s so many features and it’s not particularly intuitive! To start seeing some of the potential, join a couple of communities. As a UK person, I recommend UK Connect. It’s a lovely, friendly UK based business community.https://plus.google.com/communities/106840654774513136686

Thanks for popping in 🙂 and yes I still love good old fashioned WordPress comments 🙂

    Hi Jan,

    thanks for these tips.

As a matter of fact, I didn’t even create a Google+ Business Page yet. So your post is also a great reminder for me to get me started.

    Have a great Sunday,
    Torsten

Hi Torsten! You know, if you are your business and brand, a profile may be just fine for you. It’s much easier to get traction with a profile rather than a Page – people do react better to people rather than “businesses”.

Thanks for popping in, have a fab week 🙂

Jan mentored us through every step of the way...
“Being novices to IT, we hired Jan through a recommendation to help us with our web site(which is brilliant). Not only did she build the web site but she as mentored us through every step of the way, navigating the internet, encouraging us to joining different social networks. With out her help we would have been really struggling to cope with the requirements of a modern day business.
