Google Places Local Listing Bug

September 8, 2011 by Jan Kearney

HELP! My Google Places Local Listing Disappeared!

google places local listing I had a call from a client the other day regarding their Google Places Local Listing.  Their Google Places listing had completely disappeared and was replaced by the message, “We currently do not support the location”.

There is nothing worse than not being able to give an answer to why it has happened.  I honestly did not know, it’s not a listing I had recently worked on and everything had been fine.

So, I logged into the Google Places account and checked that the listing was actually still there and active.

And, it was…

But clicking on the “view my listing” link gave the same result.  The entry had just disappeared into a black hole!

Judging by the cries for help on the Google Places for business support forum, it’s a very common problem at the moment.  A common problem with no answer from Google, although they are aware of the issue.

What to do if your Google Places Local Listing disappears…

Reading through the support threads and the consolodated thread, people are recommending all sorts of tips to get the listing back.  From changing categories, updating the description and even moving the map marker.

What has become clear is those businesses who have tweaked the listing, some did get their place back on the map but appear to have lost their reviews.

Listings are coming back on their own.  It is just a case of sit tight and patiently wait.  Not the best answer, I know.

It may be worth adding your “We currently do not support the location” bug complaint to the ever expanding list on the forums too.

For the record, my clients Google Places local listing came back all on its own with no tweaking after about 5 days (from initial report to today).
