YouTube now adds machine generated interactive transcripts to videos containing lots of speech. That’s great isn’t it?
Well not exactly…
Why You Should Remove the Interactive Transcript
The problem with machine-generated transcripts is well, they can be barely understandable. For example, I was working with a client over the weekend and we discovered that YouTube’s machine generated transcript really struggles with the Scouse accent.
As you can see, the text displayed in the transcript does not make sense. Not everyone will look at the interactive transcript, but for those that do you want it to say what you are actually saying.
Not all machine-generated transcripts are that bad, some have an odd word each line transcribed incorrectly. It is worth checking your videos because:
- Gibberish doesn’t reflect well on you as a business
- An incorrect transcription dilutes your message
- You lose any SEO benefit as any keywords you use are often missing
