Facebook Page Spam Comments
Spam comments on my Facebook Page infuriate me. A slight over-reaction maybe!
Would these people who come along and drop their promo links in Facebook Page comments walk into another business’ office or shop and just start putting up posters about their latest promotion without invitation? You wouldn’t act like that in the real world without quickly discovering the error of your ways (a smack in the teeth often offends…) Don’t do it online!
I did mention Facebook fly-by commenters in my list of 5 irritating social media practices over 2 years ago now. My feelings haven’t changed since then.
In fact I am even more grumpy about spam comments and have zero tolerance these days – I don’t get many spam comments on my Facebook Page either. When I do, they’re zapped…
That’s where this post comes in. (I know, get to the point, Jan!)
Since Facebook changed its Page layout again, I was clicking around looking for the delete comment link. It seemed to have disappeared.
Once found, I thought I’d record a quick video showing how to delete comments from your Facebook Page. For those who prefer to read there’s a video transcript and instructions with screenshots below.
How to Delete Facebook Page Comments
[showhide type=”transcript” more_text=”Show Video Transcript” less_text=”Hide Video Transcript” hidden=”yes”]Hi, it’s Jan Kearney from My Local Business Online. Today I want to show you how you can delete comments other people make on your Facebook Page. Now I popped onto my Facebook Page this morning, and I scroll down I’ll show you, to be greeted with this.
I find that to be incredibly rude, this type of comment spam really, really makes my blood boil. How dare they visit one of my little homes online, my Facebook Page and leave a promotional comment with their affiliate link in. It’s just incredibly rude and not polite.
I’m going to show you how to delete this comment because as you can see, there’s no delete button. If I open up the posts to page there’s no delete button there. However, when you click on Posts to Page and click the down button you can select to:
Hide from the page
Say you don’t like the post
Hide all from Simon
Unfollow My Local Business Online
–Log in as Facebook Page–
Same again, scroll down until you find the comment. Open up the Posts to Page by clicking the arrow. Now you can:
Hide from the page
I don’t like this post
Report the post
Hide all from Simon
Delete from Page
That’s the one that we want, we’re going to delete the comment from the page.
That’s changed a little since the new Timeline because you did have the option of blocking people from the page as well. This time you get a nice pop up. It says are you sure you want to delete this and you can delete and ban the user or just delete it.
Obviously, if you have somebody who regularly pops in and comments on your Facebook Page you want to delete anything that is not relevant or perhaps overly promotional. You’ll just want to hit delete. However, I have no idea who this Simon guy is. He’s never popped in and said hello, we’ve not chatted. So I am going to delete and ban him because I am really not interested in him coming back and trying that one again.
There it is, he’s gone. That’s how to delete comments made on your Facebook Page. I hope that helps you. Don’t forget you can pop along and comment on my Facebook Page to say hello and I won’t zap you. I won’t delete you from my Facebook Page! Speak soon.[/showhide]
3 Steps to Remove Spam Comments from Your Facebook Page
This works either logged in as your Facebook Page or Personal Profile.
1. Open your Facebook Page and scroll down to the “Posts to Page” on the left side of your Timeline. Click arrow pointing right to open comments on your Page
2. When the comments box pops up, click the dropdown arrow at the top right of the comment you want to delete. Select Delete from Page.
3. A new box pops up with the option to delete the comment and ban the user from your Facebook Page or just delete the comment. Choose the one that suits you best.
That’s it your done!
The spam comment has gone from the comment pop up box. Close the light box. Your Facebook Page will refresh and the spam comment will be zapped into oblivion where it belongs!

Hi Jan
It’s amazingly rude when people make these spam posts and I can only imagine they know no better. Hopefully a little education will help them see the error of their ways!
Happily I don’t get many, but that’s a useful post and I’m going to save it away so that I know where to find it in future as it is annoying when a Facebook feature “moves”.
An aside I can’t resist is that you made me smile with your “A smack in the teeth often offends” remark. When I was a little girl my parents had a shop and displayed a sign like that, prefaced with “Please do not ask for credit because……” So thanks for that memory 🙂

I don’t get many spam comments on my Facebook Page these days either Joy – which is why I was rummaging for the delete link! I did have a phase when I was getting 3 or 4 per week, often because people thought the name of my page was one of those ad type pages/groups. I soon put them straight haha.
Corner shops around here had those credit signs too when I was growing up – don’t see them often these days (or perhaps I just don’t notice them any more?)
Thanks for popping in 🙂

It is so annoying when Facebook and other sites hide how to delete stuff. You can end up searching for ages and then simply giving up, which means Facebook wins. grrrrr
