How To Add A Pay With A Tweet Button To Your Posts [Video]

February 7, 2013 by Jan Kearney

Pay with a Tweet is a social payment system where people can “buy” your information for the price of a tweet or Facebook share.

It allows you to offer information or downloads in return for people tweeting about your offer.  Once a reader has tweeted or shared your link with their contacts, they are given access to the hidden area or download.

How to add a pay with a tweet button to your blog posts

It is fairly straight forward adding a Pay With a Tweet button to your blog posts or pages using paywithatweet.com.  The video below walks you through the process.

How to add a Pay With A Tweet Button to your blog

Step 1.  Upload your file or create your new page.  Make a note of the URL

Step 2.  Create the post or page where you will place the pay with a tweet button

Step 3.  Shorten the URL using bit.ly or similar

Step 4. Open paywithatweet.com/sell.php in a new tab.  Fill out the form with your

  • name,
  • email address,
  • file name,
  • download page (the URL you made a note of in step 1)
  • tweet text,
  • the shortened url (created in step 3),

Step 5.  Enter the captcha code and click create a button.  Choose your button style and copy the code

Step 6.  Paste the code into the post HTML where you want the button to appear

This is interesting. I will have to look into this more. I have several ideas running through my head now on how I could use it.

Hi Shawn, pay with a tweet (or a Facebook share!) can be a great way to spread the word about your products and services. Do pop back in and let me know how you put it to use!
Thanks for popping in and commenting 🙂

I’m wondering how I can put this to good use. Can you add video to the mix as a download file or is this limited to just text content?

    • Jan Kearney says

      February 8, 2013 at 2:42 pm

Hi Bonnie, you can add anything you want in there – as long as you add the download area. It can be a video or zip file or pointing to a hidden or download page. Have fun with it 🙂

    Hi Jan,
I popped over to the other post you mention to see it in action.
I quite like the way you have used it in the way you’d normally see a link in the post.
That way it looks less like a content blocker, which you often see on other sites as more aggressive hand in your face type blocking.

    Another interesting tool!
    Cheers,
    Gordon

Hi Gordon, I’m not a fan of content blockers, especially on blogs. If you want me to read then give me access! I do think the pay with a tweet button has its uses though – like on the generate buzz post, the post is there and there’s a step by step guide if you want more info. A bit like asking for an email address.
Thanks for popping in and your comment 🙂

    Hi Jan

I agree with the comment above, – this sounds really interesting. I think I’ll have a play around with that and see if I can get it working. (I have reservations as I am a bit technically challenged – lol)

Cheers Jan, all the best 🙂

This is certainly food for thought? Jan how would this benefit my market – Admin professionals? I’m not to sure how this would work for me. Appreciate the great content!

The first things that spring to mind, Debra are any templates or checklists that you use and want to share with your readers? Perhaps PDF tutorials to download after reading a post. There’s all sorts of things you can use it for. Personally, I wouldn’t use it as a content gate but to add something extra to a post.
