It’s day 1 of Bonnie Gean’s Video Blogging Challenge and I am going to take part!
Video Blogging Challenge
I was going to find any excuse to back out of this challenge. I do have some very real video issues.
1. I don’t have a video camera or a smart phone thing.
So I tried the laptop webcam…
It looks fine in its tiny video box watching it directly from the hard drive, but doesn’t upload well at all to Youtube.
2. The bigger issue is I don’t do appearing on video. It’s a massive step to take for me personally.
To say I am terrified is an understatement. I’d rather go stand in a room full of moths – and that isn’t going to happen by choice any time soon!
Since I made the decision to take part in the video blog challenge and it took me 2 hours to actually stop dithering, close my eyes and upload it and then almost another hour to get around to writing this post… I’m running with it.
I’ll sort something out as we go along because if I back out now I won’t do it at all!
So, eyes are closed, going with it. Practice makes perfect and perfection is not required!
I’d love for you to join me in the Video Blogging Challenge. Find more details over on Bonnie’s blog post and join the G+ Video Blogging Challenge Community. If I can do it – YOU can too!
Day 1 Video Blog is below. I’ve also included a transcript for those who prefer to read or can’t bear the terror of watching my nostrils! (*note to self* fix the angle of the screen a bit!)
Video Blogging Day 1
(Do it scared…)
Transcript
Hi, it’s Jan at My Local Business Online. Good Morning!
Welcome to day 1 of Bonnie Gean’s Video Blogging Challenge. Now, I am going to apologise in advance as I don’t have a video camera. Indeed, I don’t do on-screen video. You won’t see my face often at all. However, it is Bonnie’s video challenge and I wanted to at least attempt to take part. So I’m using my video webcam which is less than ideal. If this thing goes well and I get over my hurdles of speaking on camera then it’s a direction I want to go into anyway.
You might be wondering why the hell I am doing this if I am not comfortable, it’s because… Well two reasons.
First of all I need to get over myself and get it done. And secondly, I did a chat at a networking and seminar morning last Friday. I was talking about local business blogging. Now video blogging goes hand in hand with that. Local video has a huge potential for local businesses to really start expanding their reach, widening their audience, improving online visibility – just using a different media format that goes hand in hand with blogging that helps you get found easily when done correctly as well.
So I really want you to join me too in Bonnie Gean’s Video Blogging Challenge I’ll be leaving the links on the screen and below this video too. You can pop over to her blog to see what it’s all about and join the Google Plus community as well to share your videos.
Basically, it’s Monday to Friday throughout March posting a short video. Now I don’t know yet how I am going to achieve Monday to Friday because quite frankly I’m up to my eyes in work at the moment! I am definitely going to try!
I’ve made the first step. It’s 8.30 in the morning. Good Morning! For me that’s the equivalent to the crack of dawn! I’ve got up especially to make this video before I start work because if I leave it till the end of the day, it won’t get done.
From me and my coffee – good morning to you. I hope you join me in Bonnie Gean’s Video Blogging Challenge. I’ll speak to you soon.
Over to you!
Will you join me in Bonnie’s Video Blogging Challenge?

Thanks Bonnie! Yes, I was and still am very nervous. But, daughter has found the external webcam, I’ve installed the software and ready for round two in the morning!

Very nicely done. You looked quite relaxed, actually. You’ll be rolling right through it within a week.

Thanks Tracie! I hope so!
Sky Nealon says
Hi Jan,
Congratulation on facing your fear and for getting yourself in front of a camera, you shouldn’t have needed to worry at all as you seem so natural, and so friendly too which is really cool. Now I hope you don’t mind me asking you this Jan, but where did you get those awesome headset?
Looking forward to your next video and keep up the great work
Sky
Jan Kearney says
Thanks Sky! Headset is one of many as I keep breaking them… (Read, Muppet dog stealing and chewing) Amazon cheapy!
