How to Delete Free Yell Listings

June 17, 2014 by Jan Kearney

There seems to be an influx of people landing here looking for details on how to delete free Yell listings.  I know from experience cleaning up citations for local listings that Yell/Hibu don’t seem to have this information available on their site – or if it is, it is so far buried that no one can find it!

Your business data you provide in your free Yell listing is included in:

  • the Yell.com online directory
  • your local Yellow Pages paper directory
  • the 118 247 telephone directory
  • the Yell mobile app

Yell is a handy business listing to have and is often quite high profile in local searches.  It’s a business citation I recommend you keep up to date.

You cannot delete a free Yell listing simply by logging in to your ad and editing the details.  Remove your listing by contacting them directly by phone.

The best number I have found to request removing your business details is 0800 533433.  You will need to know the name of the person who registered the Yell account.  Other than that, it’s a simple and quick process.  I find that details are removed from the Yell website in a couple of days.

Remember: You don’t need to delete your free Yell.com listing if your business has moved.  Simply log in to your Yell account and update your business details.

I take it that this is for UK customers? Is Yell.com similar to the US yellow pages?

Yes Bonnie – Yell is UK Yellow Pages. The paper directory is still called that.

looks like it is a lot of tricky work trying to remove listing from Yell. I am from India and am glad that this is not a problem as YELL is yet to launch for India. But this information is still nice to know. Wonder if it is the same for FourSquare app too. I have two listings for my property and both seem to get checkins. However I own only one and the other is un-claimed.

Hi Harish – did you know you can request to merge duplicate FourSquare listings? There’s more info at http://www.whitespark.ca/blog/post/25-facebook-foursquare-duplicate-listings

I wish everyone would clear up their details. I would say most of the information in online directories is waaaaaay out of date, making it pretty much useless for researching companies (which I was doing for a few months part time until a little while ago).

Hi Ana, my clients’ details are not often out of date (even the ones who move 3 times in 2 years!) 🙂
To be fair, a lot of data out there is scraped and it can be a pain to keep on top of it. Cleaning up business listings is not a fun task and can take months to filter through. It’s one job that is often overlooked by business owners.
      I feel your pain though!

Thanks for this tip Jan. They’re always ringing me up and trying to sell me more paid advertising. Well, I suppose in all honesty it’s probably only once a year – but it seems more often! Joy
