How To Change Your Email Display Name In Gmail [Video]

The Joys Of Ageing Google Accounts…

It wasn’t that long ago, in the time of Google Places when you would set up a Google account to claim your Place and suddenly have a GMail account.  The email display name would be the unfortunate person nominated to ignore, sorry keep an eye on the account.

For several small businesses I worked with, that was and is just fine.

The Google account was accessed by 2 or more people simply because you couldn’t have more than 1 owner/admin on Google Places.   The GMail gets used too, because it’s handy (not to mention free!)

Of course, Google Places is no more and Google My Business Local Pages can have an owner and several managers – all with their own Google Accounts. The GMail account at this point is often in regular use as “everyone” has access to it and an email that multiple people can access is convenient.

Until the main named account holder moves on or gets married and changes their name – things change.

GMail tip - how to change the email display name

How To Change Your Email Display Name In Gmail

There must be something in the air, perhaps spring brings on changes? I’ve been asked how to change names in GMail a few times recently, hence the post and this video.

You’ll find the original text instructions and additional info about changing email accounts and transferring data here.

1. Log into your GMail account and click the settings cog
2. In the drop down menu choose settings
3. From the menu tabs at the top of the page choose Accounts and Import
4. Click the edit info link to the right of the Send Mail As settings
5. Type in your chosen display name and click save

Over to you…

Do you want to admit how many abandoned Google and GMail accounts you have floating around? Confess in the comments 🙂
