I was having a chat on Skype when the question came up,
How do I create an Infographic?
Not having a creative bone in my body, my first reaction was to hire a designer.
That’s great if you want something swish and looking really good.
In this case, some simple charts were needed, and preferably quickly.
Easy Infographics Creators
Infogr.am is a free infographics creator that allows you to import data (or type it in directly) to create charts and graphs. You can also add titles, text, quotes and images. There’s lots of templates to chose from and you can switch colour palettes
It’s great for the graphically challenged like me who also like stats. Unfortunately, you cannot download your infographic, but you can embed it or share on Twitter, Facebook or Pinterest. The infographic below was created in about 2 minutes and you can tell I have no sense of colour co-ordination!
Picktochart has a free version with a premium upgrade. You can import data for charts too – and download your final product. The free version is quite limited on templates, but it is great fun to use.
Easi.ly is brilliant if you are a bit colour co-ordinated and have a sense of style (unlike me!) You can choose from templates or start from a blank canvas. Whilst you can’t create charts, you can upload images. So, if you are a chartaholic then all is not lost… To save and therefore download your creations, you do need to be logged in – register and log in before you start.
Over to you… Will you be creating your own infographics, or leaving that to the experts?

I used Piktochart and didn’t care for it. My browser took way to long to redraw on the screen and I got super frustrated before I ever finished an infographic.
I gave up and finally did mine in Photoshop.

I loved your infographic, Bonnie!

Thanks!
I made an offer to Minna to provide some PSD templates for her to mess with… so look for them and grab GIMP.
You can use the layouts I provide to make super InfoGraphics. Give me a few days to get the templates made and I’ll announce it on my blog when they’re done!

WOO!

Wow!! Look…. your post led me to Bonnie and a free site where I managed to create my first ever infographic, which you should see via CommentLuv. It didn’t seem to show as I’d expected on Pinterest, but I’m dead chuffed as I’d never done anything like this before. Thanks so much! (OK, I’m sure there are far better ones out there, but it’s my first and I love it.) Joy

Wonderful, Joy!
I see what you mean about Pinterest, it doesn’t seem to see the image. When I pinned straight from instagram it chose only the top image – I edited the pin and pointed it back at your blog too.
That’s a shame and a point to note when using infogram – I wasn’t pinning much of anything when I wrote this post.
Joy Healey says
Thanks for pinning it and pointing to back to my blog – that’s what I did too. I should contact Infogram and ask for their suggestions.
Now I’ve done the first one it has given me ideas to do more.
